8 bedroom staging ideas

When staging a home, the bedrooms are one of the key components in making a clients vision come to life. It’s important to stage them appropriately, transforming the space into a room that potential buyers or holiday renters can envision themselves relaxing in.

We’ve put together some of our favourite and most effective bedroom staging ideas below.

1. Fill empty walls

If you’re presented with an empty bedroom, it’s important to consider how you’re going to fill the walls.

Artwork is your best friend when it comes to staging. A statement piece hung behind the bed is a great option, or a set of two or three prints works nicely for some spaces.

Once you’ve decided on artwork, consider other ways of dressing the bedroom walls. Take inspiration from the project pictured above and implement practical elements that potential buyers or holiday makers will appreciate. A shelf with hooks is handy for hanging clothes and a decent sized mirror is always a good idea.

2. Create a beautiful bed

Staging needs to inspire people and have them walking into a room saying ‘wow’! A beautifully made bed is key to a successfully staged bedroom. There are many ways to dress a bed and each bedroom we stage is different but making sure the linen is perfectly pressed is a great place to start.

Incorporate soft furnishings in the colour palette that you have chosen for that particular room. A pair of stylish scatter cushions and a textured throw never fail to add visual interest to a plain bed.

3. Add a splash of colour and pattern

Dictating how a space is going to be used is usually a prior conversation between you and the client. If you’ve got a children’s bedroom as part of your brief then an effective way of bringing it to life is to add some colour and pattern.

Work with any existing features of the room. For example, in this kids room there was already a patterned wallpaper feature wall. Nesh picked out the key colours of pink and baby blue and incorporated other elements to complement the wallpaper design. Soft furnishings, artwork and decorative accessories go a long way in making a bedroom scheme feel cohesive.

4. Introduce ambient lighting

It’s all well and good putting a bedroom scheme together, introducing colour and stylish furniture. However, you must consider how the room ‘feels’ as well as how it looks.

Lighting is a major element of any room design but especially bedrooms. We all want bedrooms to feel naturally calming and to be a safe haven to relax in. Don’t just hang a ceiling light and leave it there, choose on-trend table lamps to offer another light source.

5. Dress any plain surfaces

Avoid a staged bedroom looking bare and empty by styling any empty surfaces. The client may already have existing furniture that they want to keep, or perhaps you’ve included some more items in your design that need to be dressed.

Don’t leave the top of a chest of drawers clear, style it up with a plant or a vase of flowers to add colour and height. A stack of vintage books is also very effective or any other trinkets you may have that suit the bedroom scheme.

6. A cohesive colour palette

Keep things simple when staging a bedroom and stick to a distinct colour scheme. Consider whether or not the bedroom is north or south facing and how much natural light is available to the space.

South facing rooms will be naturally brighter so you can get away with darker colour tones, whereas north facing rooms might suit a more neutral colour scheme. It’s always a lovely idea to be inspired by the location of the property. In the bedroom pictured above we introduced green to the space to reflect the beautiful view you can see out of the window.

7. Use artificial plants

Staging projects are unique as they often sit unoccupied for certain periods of time. Plants are a wonderful accessory to include in any home, but with a staged property it’s important to think whether or not someone will be available to look after them.

More often than not, Nesh likes to incorporate artificial plants in staged bedrooms. They require no maintenance but create a similar effect to the real deal.

8. Choose versatile furniture

Having bedroom furniture that can be moved and used for different purposes is a bonus for any staging client. For example, in the project pictured above we included zip and link beds which can either be used as twin single beds or one king size.

This is a very practical element of a staged bedroom, especially when it’s going to be used as a holiday let as it can suit a multitude of different guests.
